The two-day event brought together all doctoral candidates, supervisors, and consortium partners for an engaging program of training, research presentations, and collaborative discussions. The meeting served as a platform for doctoral candidates to share their scientific progress, exchange ideas, and receive constructive feedback from peers and senior researchers. It also included a hands-on bioinformatics workshop designed to strengthen computational skills relevant to the study of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs).

Event Summary

Day 1: Sunday, May 18: Bioinformatics Workshop

The event began in the afternoon with a bioinformatics workshop led by Prof. Zsuzsanna Dosztányi and representatives from Systasy Bioscience. Running from 13:00 to 17:00, the session provided participants with both theoretical insights and practical exercises related to the computational analysis of intrinsically disordered proteins and regions. Doctoral candidates engaged in hands-on problem-solving activities, exploring state-of-the-art tools and methodologies for predicting disorder and analyzing interaction motifs.

Day 2 Monday, May 19: Doctoral Presentations and Consortium Meetings

The second day was devoted to research presentations and strategic discussions within the IDPro consortium. The program was structured into three thematic sessions reflecting the consortium's work packages (WPs), each chaired by a leading principal investigator.

  • Session 1-WP1: Motifs and Mechanisms (Chair: Ylva Ivarsson): The morning opened with welcome remarks outlining the goals of the meeting. This was followed by presentations from Doctoral Candidates 1 to 3 (08:40-09:40), who shared their latest findings on short linear motifs, molecular interactions, and mechanistic studies.
  • Session 2-WP2: Larger Context (Chair: Stefano Gianni): The second session (10:00-11:20) featured talks from Doctoral Candidates 4 to 7, focusing on the broader context of intrinsically disordered proteins, their roles in cellular networks, and their biophysical and computational characterization.
  • Session 3-WP3: Targeting and Cellular Networks: The final presentation block (11:30-13:40) covered Doctoral Candidates 8 to 11, who presented their work on targeting disordered proteins and understanding their functions in complex cellular systems. The session included a lunch break (12:10-13:10) and continued with the remaining talks.

The meeting concluded with participants departing for the subsequent IDPro Summer School, continuing the week's focus on advancing research and collaboration within the network.
